Captain Laura Sudman began her career with the Margate Police Department in 1988. In 1994 she was assigned to the Community Affairs Division. A year later she became certified as a Traffic Homicide Investigator and a Field Training Officer. In 1997 Laura Sudman taught at the Police Academy as a Criminal Justice Institute Instructor for two years, after which she was assigned to the Margate Training Division. She became a Master Police Officer in January of 2003. Later that year, she was promoted to Sergeant of Road Patrol.
In 2008 she became the Honor Guard Commander and on January 17, 2009, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. In September of 2012 she graduated the FBI National Academy and a year later, was assigned to the Administrative Service Bureau. She was then assigned as the Commander of the Support Services Bureau on May 10, 2014. Laura Sudman was promoted to the rank of Captain on October 5, 2015, and served as the commander of the Support Services Bureau until May 15, 2017, when she was re-assigned, and currently serves as Captain for, the Field Services Bureau.
