Opening, closing, or changing your account:
How do I open a new account?
To open a new account, the owner of the property must present a copy of the signed settlement (HUD) statement, a photo id (driver's license is acceptable) and place a security deposit. See below for rates. Following is a listing of fees associated with opening an existing single family water and sewer account with the City:
- 5/8" - meter $ 105.00 deposit + $15.00 application fee
- 1" - meter $170.00 deposit + $15.00 application fee
- 1 1/2" - meter $210.00 deposit + $15.00 application fee
- 2" - meter $495.00 deposit + $15.00 application fee
- Water and sewer deposits are held for a minimum of one year.
- The deposit may be returned to the customer after one year if the customer's account has not been shut off due to nonpayment.
- The customer must submit in writing to the City of Margate a completed return of the deposit form.
- There are additional charges for installing new connections to the water and sewer connection.
How do I open a water and sewer account if I am renting?
IMPORTANT! A tenant can not open a water and sewer account. The owner/property manager needs to notify the City in writing, to add the tenant as a care of on the mailing address using the change of address form. The owner/property manager may also request a duplicate copy (third party billing) of the bill on the same form.
How do I change my mailing address?
All address changes must be submitted in writing. Complete the change of address form and mail it to P.O. Box 934459, Margate, FL 33093-4459 or fax it: (954) 935-5258.
How do I close my utility account?
Complete and submit the sold your home form to the City of Margates Utility Department at least 24 hours prior to the disconnection date.
Are there any liens or other outstanding balances on this property?
For a lien search, send a check for $25 to: Finance Department, 5790 Margate Blvd, Margate, FL 33063 with a completed lien inquiry form and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). The lien search process takes 1 week to complete.
