Margate Community College
MARGATE, FL. - April 23, 2013 - The City of Margate announces that applications are now available for the 2014 Session of the Margate Community College. This 8-week long interactive program will provide residents and business owners, over the age of 18, an opportunity to learn how their City government works from the inside out. City of Margate staff, including the City Manager and Department Directors, will host the Tuesday night sessions beginning, tentatively, in January 2014.
Each class runs from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., with a light dinner served from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. Classes will be held at various City facilities throughout Margate, including City Hall, Calypso Cove, the Department of Environmental and Engineering Services, Fire Station #98, the Police Department Training & Transit Center, and the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center.
Although students are encouraged to attend every class, only 6 of the 8 sessions are mandatory for graduation. If a conflict arises where a student misses more than the allowed 2 sessions, arrangements can be made to make up the classes in a future semester.
The goal of Margate Community College is to give interested residents the opportunity to become better informed and more involved in understanding the daily workings of their City. All residents are encouraged to apply for admission to this free program, sponsored by the City Commission and coordinated through the office of the City Manager.
To apply for the Margate Community College, residents are being asked to fill out an application and submit it to the City at the Margate City Manager's Office, 5790 Margate Boulevard, Margate, FL 33063. Applications are available for download from the City's website at www.margatefl.com, or may be picked up at Margate City Hall. Space is limited to 25 participants.
