MARGATE, FL - November 20, 2012 - The City of Margate is excited to introduce a new way to recycle with rollout recycling carts and recycling rewards. The new carts will hold much more recyclable materials and will make it easier to bring recyclables to the curb. Residents on the City of Margate Recycling Program with curbside recycling will soon begin receiving new rollout recycling carts. Deliveries will begin on November 26, 2012 and will take approximately three weeks to complete.

The new recycling carts will replace the existing recycling bins. Residents should begin using their carts immediately as they will no longer be able to use their existing bins. Along with the new recycling carts the City is also launching the Recyclebank rewards program. As part of the Recyclebank rewards program, registered participants can earn points for green actions like recycling. The points can then be redeemed for discounts and deals from local and national businesses. Registration with Recyclebank is required to receive rewards. Information on how to register will be mailed to residents in the coming weeks.

The new rollout recycling carts, along with the Recyclebank program, bring an exciting change to the City of Margate Recycling Program. The City looks forward to increased participation and enthusiasm for recycling from residents.

The City of Margate Utilizes CodeRED for Mass Notification to Residents

Posted on 11-01-2012

In light of recent storm events in the North East sections of the United States, the City of Margate would like to take this opportunity to remind all residents that they should enroll in the City's CodeRED program to receive important public safety messages. In operation since 2005, the CodeRED system allows the City to contact residents by phone, email, and cellular text messaging. No one should automatically assume their contact information is in the CodeRED system. A test message was sent in June of 2012 and most recently a CodeRED message was sent out in late October regarding a boil water issue.

If you did not get either of these messages, we urge you to visit our website at www.margatefl.com and click on the CodeRED link and register your home phone, cellphone, and email address. Residents may also visit City Hall at 5790 Margate Boulevard and register with the receptionist. If you have any questions, please call (954) 971-7010 for further information.

City of Margate Earns Class 1 ISO Rating

Posted on 10-04-2012

MARGATE, FL-October 4, 2012-The City of Margate is extremely proud to announce that on September 27, 2012, the City was formally advised that, based on recent visits, interviews, and data submission, Margate is being reclassified from an ISO (Insurance Services Office) Class III to a Class I, effective January 1, 2013. Based on data supplied by the ISO, the City of Margate will be one of ten municipalities in Florida to earn this top classification, and in the top 1% in the country! The City is honored to have attained a Class 1 rating...one of only 10 in the State of Florida and 61 across the country. ISO is responsible to rate 48,000 fire rescue departments in this country and the City of Margate earned the highest rating! In the coming weeks the Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department will begin to brand our agency with vehicle lettering and wear new t-shirts that will proudly claim our Class 1 status. This is certainly a City-wide accomplishment and could not have been achieved without the support of our Mayor, City Commission, City Manager, Fire-Rescue Chief and all staff.

Mayor Pam Donovan stated, "What a great accomplishment for our City and the entire community." "We have a great team in place in our City and it is more evident each and every day."

It is not unusual for businesses to obtain lower insurance premiums based on a city's ISO Class I rating.

A formal presentation will be made to all residents at the October 17, 2012, City Commission meeting.

Posted on 09-27-2012

MARGATE, FL - September 27, 2012 - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently updated the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for Broward County and revised flood zones based on the study's findings. Residents may appeal the proposed changes in the 90-day statutory appeal period, which began August 31, 2012 and will end November 30, 2012. During this appeal period, residents may submit documentation or other pertinent information to challenge the proposed designations on their individual properties before they become permanent. For assistance with the appeal process, contact Jeanine Athias, Engineer, in the City's Department of Environmental and Engineering Services, at (954) 972-0828.
