The Planning/Fire Prevention Division is responsible for conducting fire inspections on all commercial and multi-family residential properties, reviewing construction plans for fire code compliance, conducting fire investigations, and providing public education. In addition, the Division also oversees long-term projects such as fire hydrant maintenance, ISO rating, and accreditation.
Division Chief Dan Booker is the Fire Code Official for the City of Margate and is in charge of the Planning/Prevention Division. He has 25 years of experience in the fire service, 23 with the City of Margate, and 2 years as a volunteer firefighter in San Marcos, Texas. He oversees all aspects of prevention and planning activities to insure the safety of Margate's citizens and provides a direct liaison between the Fire Department and the business community by serving on Margate's Development Review Committee. Chief Booker holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University, a Bachelor's Degree from Barry University, and an Associate's Degree from Broward College. He also is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program and the Management Program. He currently Chairs the Broward Emergency Coordinating Council and the Broward CERT Committee, and is the former Chair of the Mutual Aid/Communications Committee of the Fire Chief's Association of Broward County. Chief Booker is a Certified Florida Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator and is a Broward County Certified Fire Code Official.
