The Margate - Coconut Creek Fire Department Operations Division is responsible for training and professional development of all uniform and civilian employees. The training component is dedicated to the highest level of training, education, professional development and safety, providing a variety of basic and specialized programs from entry-level firefighting skills and EMS to technical rescue and complex scene management classes. Training is accomplished within the operations Division with one full time instructor / coordinator and a host of part time instructors. Courses are delivered in a variety of ways including online, classroom and practical skills and evolutions in the field. Currently the Margate - Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Training Division has combined with the Coral Springs FD Training Division & Fire Academy to provide facility based training with includes Live Fire Evolutions with the multiple burn simulators that are provided. Additionally both Margate and Coral Springs FD Training Divisions have a shared training program that allows the Margate - Coconut Creek Training Division to assist the in-service training of the Coral Springs FD and its members which occurs on a regular basis.
The Margate - Coconut Creek Training Division delivers more than 20,000 hours of training per year for its 108 combat firefighters. The Margate - Coconut Creek FD Training Div. have assisted in the training of fire service personnel from all over Southern Florida as well as law enforcement, military personnel, hospitals, schools, FBI, and many more. The division is comprised of a highly trained and specialized cadre of State Certified Instructors whose knowledge and abilities are second only to their dedication in their profession.
Lt. Rob Ramirez joined the City of Margate –Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department in 2002. Lt. Ramirez began his Firefighting career in 1998 as a volunteer with the Ocean Reef Fire Dept. Prior to joining Margate Fire Rescue he served as a Firefighter- Paramedic with the city of Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue. He is currently appointed to the position of Fire Department Training Officer, reporting directly to the Operations Division Chief. He is responsible for all of the departments in service training, recruit training standards and the professional development of 113 Fire department employees.
Prior to being appointed to Dept. Training Officer, Lt. Ramirez held the positions of Firefighter –Paramedic and eventually Lieutenant since 2005.He is also a member of the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Florida Task Force 2 since 2006, and has served on several FEMA disaster deployments including the Haiti Earthquake of 2010.
His Career accomplishments include numerous awards, such as multiple Firefighter of the Month awards, a Department Firefighter of the Year award in 2009 and a Broward County EMS Hero of the year award in 2010.He has also been a Lead Paramedic Instructor at several colleges and institutions. He is currently a Fire Instructor at the Coral Spring Fire Academy, where he is the Lead Instructor of the Firefighter Advanced Survival Techniques Program (F.A.S.T). He is also a return Instructor at the annual Ft. Lauderdale Fire Expo and Conference and has been a consultant for multiple United States Army Technical Rescue military Engineer units nationwide for several years. Lt. Ramirez is a national Pro Board and State certified Fire Instructor, Live Fire Training Instructor and Fire Officer.
