Special Operations
Special Operations Division (SOD) was implemented in January of 1999, and was tasked with investigating narcotics and vice related violations and other tasks as required by the Chief of Police. SOD detectives report to the Investigative Services Bureau Commander who oversees and coordinates the division’s efforts.
The division has initiated literally hundreds of narcotics investigations, from small street-level drug violations up to major trafficking and smuggling operations. The division has members assigned to local drug enforcement administration (DEA) task forces and has participated in numerous Federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) cases.
Additionally, enforcement operations initiated by SOD have resulted in numerous arrests for various “quality of life” issues, which is part of our coordinated approach to community policing. The division works closely with Patrol, the Selective Enforcement Team, Neighborhood Policing and the Criminal Investigation Division to help reduce burglary, auto theft and gang activity.
