On behalf of the entire membership of the Margate Police Department, I welcome you to our virtual tour. MPD is a nationally and state accredited law enforcement agency, comprised of 202 dedicated men and women, which includes sworn, civilian, part-time and volunteer members. Collectively, our agency comprises one of the finest groups of law enforcement professionals, dedicated to providing the ultimate in law enforcement services to the community.
We are certainly proud to report that during the 2010 calendar year that violent crime was reduced by 29.8%. We experienced a 3.4% reduction in total index offenses, which included a 12% reduction in Robbery, 34% reduction in Aggravated Assault, and 3.7% reduction in Larceny/Theft. We are extremely pleased and exceptionally proud that our community’s crime rate, based on primary offenses, declined significantly in 2006, 2005, and in 2004 with the largest reduction in history of 26.6 %. Our crime index continues to remain lower than in 2002.
The department is pleased that our latest Citizen’s Satisfaction Survey revealed that 93% of Margate’s residents were confident in the department’s ability to deal with criminal activity and address neighborhood problems.
We have, and continue to implement proactive departmental and community enhancement initiatives, including a comprehensive districting and accountability program. The department’s full-time Special Enforcement Team (SET) has made significant strides working closely with our dedicated men and women in uniform and plain clothes. Our team of officers target criminal activity based upon an analysis of crimes and victimization trends. We believe these initiatives in concert with our exceptional community partnerships and our outstanding victim services have been instrumental in our ability to effectively fight crime in the community.
Additionally, the membership of the department continues to embrace the guiding principles of our department in the form of collective vision, mission, and value statements. As a principle centered philosophy these guiding tenets serve to enhance our entire membership’s commitment of providing the ultimate delivery of services to our community as a model police organization.
