Victim Advocate
In a continuing effort to enhance victim services to all residents in the City, the Margate Police Department recently applied for and was awarded a grant to fund a full time and part time Victim Advocate position. The State of Florida Attorney General’s Office, through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), awarded the grant funds, which have already made a positive impact in our community.
Staci Beers is the Police Department’s full time Victim Advocate. Staci has 17 years of experience working with crime victims including homicide, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, and assault. She is certified as a National Crisis Response Team Member and Trainer with the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA). Staci’s training and experience in crisis intervention provides victims and witnesses the extra support so commonly
needed to reduce the impact of trauma. Tysheika Shaw is the Police Department’s part time Victim Advocate. Tysheika works primarily with victims of domestic violence. Both Staci and Tysheika stay current in victim services with their involvement in the Broward Victim’s Rights Coalition, Broward Domestic Violence Council, and the Florida Freedom Partnership.
The Victim Advocate will provide criminal justice support and advocacy to victims throughout the legal process. In addition, the Victim Advocate will be educating and informing victims of domestic violence, child and sexual abuse, and the elderly, about their rights and the resources available to them. Assistance in safety planning with domestic violence and stalking victims will be a priority.
The Margate Police Department continues to strive for excellence in our service to the community and we believe the Victim Advocate program represents that pursuit of excellence.
If you have been the victim or witness to a crime in the City of Margate and need assistance, please contact Victim Advocate Staci Beers. The Police Department is also seeking volunteers to assist the Victim Advocate. Volunteer assistance will consist of answering phones, completing correspondence, and interacting with crime victims.
