Captain Laura Sudman began her career with the Margate Police Department in 1988. She was assigned to the Patrol Division serving as a Field Training Officer, a Traffic Homicide Investigator and a member of the agency Honor Guard. In 1997 she was assigned to the Institute of Public Safety as a Class Advisor and served as an adjunct Instructor as well. Upon her return from the academy, she was assigned to the Training Unit, serving as the Firearms Instructor/Range Master, Driving Instructor and general instructor for in-service training. She achieved Master Police Officer status in January 2003. Later that year, she was promoted to Sergeant and served as a supervisor on road patrol. She is a 2005 graduate of the Southern Police Institute - Command Officers Development Course and a 2007 graduate of the Sergeant Leadership Academy.
In 2008 she became the commander of the Honor Guard Team and on January 17, 2009, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. In September of 2012 she graduated from the FBI National Academy. She has served as the commander of the Administrative Services Bureau and the Support Services Bureau. In October 2015 she was promoted to the rank of Captain and has served as the commander of the Support Services Bureau and Field Services Bureau. Captain Sudman currently serves as the commander of the Investigative Services Bureau.
