Public Safety Communications Manager - Gia Shaw

With 23 years experience in Public Safety Communications, under the direction of the Fire Chief, Gia Shaw serves as the Public Safety Communications Manager for the City of Margate.  

Gia graduated with a Bachelor’s in Public Safety Administration from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), with a Minor in Criminal Justice. She began her career with the Margate Police Department in 1996 as a dispatcher and worked her way up the ranks to supervisor. She served as the FDLE Region 5 Working Group Co- Chair from 2014-2017.   

Gia left the department in 2010 and spent 5 years at the FAU Police Department as the Communications Manager. She established a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) to serve the FAU community. In 2017, she returned to the City of Margate. She currently manages public safety projects and all of the radio services. She is also the liaison for BSO Communications and is the agency representative for county governance boards.
