Blood Drive with COVID-19 Antibody Test on May 26th
The City of Margate, in partnership with Innovative Transfusion Medicine (ITM), will hold a blood drive with COVID-19 antibody tests on Tuesday, May 26th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5701 Margate Boulevard. Anyone who has not travelled and is not experiencing any flu like symptoms is encouraged to donate blood.
Innovative Transfusion Medicine, a local not-for-profit blood center serving hospitals throughout the United States, announced today that any voluntary Whole Blood Donations made at select locations and up to a defined quantity will include a COVID-19 IgG Antibodies along with mini-physical, cholesterol test and snacks. Over the past several weeks, Blood Centers throughout the country are experiencing a significant drop in donations due in response to the Coronavirus emergency. Schools, churches, businesses and public entertainment closings have disrupted routine donations.
Blood donation is safe and precautions to ensure donor safety remain in full force. New guidance has been provided to further protect donors from exposure. ITM has adopted these policies to restrict those who may be at risk. Every donor will be assessed for a current fever and recent symptoms and/or travel activity.
Donating blood poses no known risk to donors. Blood centers are regulated by the FDA and must follow specific guidelines to ensure the safety of donors and the blood supply.
If you are a healthy individual, age 17 or older, who weighs at least 115 pounds, you can donate blood. Please bring Photo ID as it is required. For blood drive information and Branch center hours, please call ITM in Coral Springs at (954) 531-6335.
