Margate PD to Launch Project Autism on July 23rd
The Margate Police Department is launching a new program, Project Autism, followed by a “Touch a Truck” event for our autistic community. A press conference will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd at Rising Tide Car Wash, which is located at 2970 N SR 7, Margate.
The purpose of this press conference is to inform the community of our newly established Autism Program that we have launched in Margate.
Immediately following the media briefing, the “Touch a Truck” event will take place at the Coral Gate Park, located at 5650 NW 29th Street, Margate, FL 33063, and will end at 12:00 pm.
The Margate Police Department will be joined by the following agencies: Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Broward Sheriff's Office, Coconut Creek Police Department, Coral Springs Police, Ft. Lauderdale Police Department, The Lauderhill Police Department, Pembroke Pines Police Department, and Plantation Police Department. There will be multiple opportunities for individuals of all ages to have positive interactions with law enforcement officers.
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided. In an effort to better serve those in our community living with Autism and related disabilities, we will maintain a database of Autistic individuals living in Margate. The information provided by the families, caregivers, and guardians of those living with Autism will greatly assist our officers when coming into contact with their loved ones.
This program will allow our police officers who are responding to an incident involving a person with Autism to appropriately prepare for, and handle, the situation with professionalism, and with the utmost of understanding for their needs. Residents of Margate can sign up for this free program on our website at margatefl.com.
