1. If I have a medical emergency near a fire station may I knock on the door?

Yes.  If you’re having an emergency you may knock on the front door of the station and present your issue to the on-duty crew.

2. Where can I properly dispose of used needles?

The City of Margate does not collect used needles, but you may refer to the following website:

3. Do you install child safety seats (car seats)?

The Margate Police Department handles the installation of child passenger safety seats.

4. Where can I properly dispose of an American flag?

American flags may be brought to the city hall lobby for proper disposal.  If the city hall lobby is closed, the PD information desk will accept them.

6. Can I burn trash in my yard?

The City of Margate has contracted trash pick up. Trash set out at the curb will be picked up on regularly scheduled days. No burning of trash is allowed under City Code in Margate.

7. Can I stop by the fire stations to get my blood pressure checked?

Absolutely. Fire stations are staffed 24 hours per day. You may stop in at any time during normal business hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

8. If a patient is transported to the hospital, may a family member accompany the patient in the ambulance?

The decision will be made by the paramedics rendering care to the patient.  During the current conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, our members have been instructed to not allow anyone other than the patient into the rescue vehicle.

9. If I am driving my vehicle and see a fire truck or ambulance approaching me, what should I do?

If you are in a moving vehicle, pull over to the closest curb. If you are stopped at a red light - do not run the light. Attempt to pull over to the closest curb so a clear lane of traffic can be opened up for emergency vehicles.

10. How do I obtain a copy of a fire or EMS (medical) report?

Please call 954-971-7010 and ask for the Records Division. Copies of reports may be obtained at the City of Margate Fire Department Administration, located at:

11. Does the Fire Department fill pools?

The Fire Department does not fill pools.

13. What should I expect when speaking with a 911 Dispatcher?

When a call is received at the emergency dispatch center, a Call Taker will gather the information while a Dispatcher simultaneously dispatches the call to the firefighters and / or paramedics.  Please provide as much accurate information as possible and be patient with the call-taker.  Do not hang up as additional information may be required.

14. Why does a fire engine respond to my house when I request an ambulance?

The Margate Fire Department utilizes Advanced Life Support Engine(s), Ladder Truck(s) and Squad(s), which are dispatched simultaneously with the closest available Margate Fire Department rescue unit.  All units are staffed with Firefighter/Paramedic.  Members assigned to a fire vehicle can begin assessing the victim and expedite care prior to the arrival of our rescue unit.
