Overview

The Engineering Division is responsible for design review, and permitting and construction inspection of site development activities within the City of Margate. 

The division is also responsible for managing:

  • City's Geographic Information System
  • City's Utility Capital Improvement Program
  • National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program
  • Environmental Sustainability Programs

National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP)

In addition, the division coordinates the City's participation in the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), and oversees all other municipal engineering related tasks for other City departments. The CRS is a voluntary incentive program which encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements, and results in discounted flood insurance rates for all property owners within the City of Margate.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans for all public and private development projects and work in the City’s rights-of-way. 
  • Performs related engineering inspections. 
  • Calculates City impact fees.
  • Issues engineering and tree permits.
  • Updates City utility records.
  • Performs utility locates.
  • Provides technical expertise to various City departments.
